    Unreal. Get a bunch of 'dummy is assigned a value that is never used'
    messages?

    Hmm... why would it choke on a variable that had no place to go?
    you'd think it would just come off the stack, especially with a
    pointer, eh?

    I'm switching to Watcom. Not that I don't expect quirks there also,
    but I expect a routine to work without having to add a printf to it.
