| subject: | Re: Replace 1 pair of mirrored drives without trashing rest of box? |
From: "Frank Haber" The one time I tried NT4's software mirror was back in the SP2 period, and I got all tangled up in a failed dual-proc conversion and gave up. I remember the buzz then was "much safer, but not twice as safe - there can be mirror problems" and "quite a bit slower for RAID 1 than single-drive." This was in the first days of 10Base/100, and we were struggling to give something like the response of a local drive under a bit of load. Does software mirroring "feel" slower under 0 load (initial response time, file open/close)? Does it bog down faster? Would you try it with IDE/ATA under SP6? --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
