SE>So that leaves us with MS-DOS from Mr. Bill and PC-DOS
SE>from IBM still available and supported.
Well.... There are _rumors_ of several groups trying to write their own
version of DOS and make the source freely available. I've got an old
alpha release from 8 months or so ago. Of course, I never tried it. (I
_D_O__N_O_T_ try alpha!) I don't know if anything else has come from
those efforts.
I've even heard about a W95 copy effort, but I can't find where I read
it though.
SE>And on an historical note didn't Mr. Bill buy DOS from
SE>Digital after he had started negotiations with IBM to
SE>provide them with the operating system for the PC?
Mmmmm.... He bought it from somebody. I can't remember who. It's
mentioned briefly in DOSREF34.zip. And IBM found so many bugs in it
they tossed it back in Mr. Bill's (Oh No!) face. And then IBM went to
work fixing since Microsoft (formerly Traff-o-Data) couldn't fix it.
And that's why IBM and Microsofts trademarks are on it.
