Paul, at 12:48 on May 11 1996, you wrote to David Drummond ... DD>> You are in it for the kudos, USR are in it for the money. It's still highly unprofessional, not PE> fixing problems in your modem, which is what my point was. I would imagine that they, like me, see this as Rod Speed's problem, not theirs. When HIS (and only his) modem attempts to connect to a V.32ter enables Courier, the Courier thinks it hears a V.32ter tone and tries to retrain up (so Rod tells us). This is obviously not the case when the called modem is NOT V.32ter enabled/capable. If other V.32bis modems connect the Courier, they have no such misunderstanding. When V.32ter modems connect, the Courier negotiates and maintains the V.32ter connection. The problem is ONLY exibited with Rod's modem, therefore it must be his modem making the odd tone. As his modem is a superceeded model, ther is no point in wasting resources trying to accommodate it. PE> And it's a far cry from working perfectly, which is what YOU PE> were trying to claim. At least now you're being honest. PE> BTW, *I* don't want to buy a USR because I want to be able to PE> communicate with others, including Rod's modem, so they've PE> lost a sale because of that, so even if what you say is what PE> they think, it doesn't work all the time. If they had fixed PE> all the problems I had reported, I would have bought one. PE> It's as simple as that. NO modem will connect with EVERY OTHER MODEM straight out of the box (although the Courier does come close). Sometimes one must adjust the settings to suit the occasion. If one MUST connect with Rod, then one simply turns off V.32ter detection and the problem goes away. Why does Rod's modem make V.32ter tones if it doesn't support that speed?
