subject: Horrible Windoze

This is probably a bit off topic but there seem to be many experienced
Windoze users on this forum. My wife must use the W thing because of the
Office programs she and her customers use. This has so far always been
W98SE which I find easy to configure and which networks well with my
OS/2 server.
I have noticed several times that those W systems, after working well
for a while, suddenly become slower and slower. My wife's machine has
256MB RAM. After boot, with no applications running except File
Commander, this shows now about 100MB RAM free and everything is
terribly slow. I have so far tried several so-called Registry cleaners,
but no luck. The only thing that works is completely re-installing
Windows on a clean disk.
Does anybody have an idea of what is going on here? Are W2000 and XP
better that way?
Stephan
