Part of the problem Mark, is that we tend to group all Christians 
with those most vociferous in their belief, and zealots are known 
for irrational positions. 
 
To say that some folks *choose* to be damned unto hell doesn't in 
my mind, take God off the hook.  They are as he made them.  Their 
actions, while seemingly of a free will, are not volitional since 
they lack the rationality to do otherwise.  Aristotle made pretty 
clear to me that only the rational mind has any choice; evildoing 
is not something a rational mind chooses to do. 
 
Granted that the evildoer can plot; they are idiot savants.  They 
cannot tell the differences between respect of power and respect; 
they choose elegant means to an end, but do not choose ends.
