I think it depends on the variety. I guess some are self
pollinating and others aren't. Florida where I am isn't exactly
apple growing country. But there are several apple varieties that
were developed in Israel that will grow here, and all of those
need pollinators. Some of my garden catalogs from northern areas
will mentioned apple varieties that need polinators, but that's
about all I know on that. I love apples and wish they did better
here. My grandfather used to have an apple orchard near Lake
Ontario in southern Ontario and I miss fresh apples.
