Rather obvious really. The code in USR modems which exhibit that in
some circumstances only does that in some circumstances. Clearly, if
PARTICULAR rom in a Sportster fixes that, it must be fixable by USR.

Think for a moment about when you said the same sort of thing based on
the heaps of modems you tested when working for CHH. What you said was
right, in THAT situation, you didnt see any problem. Boy did you get ONE
HELL of a surprise when you used the Sportster at home with the old rom
calling it tho. Which went away completely when you installed the best rom.

I'm not being snide Bill, you really do want to think this
thru. Coz if you can grasp it, it really does signify a
HELL of a lot about testing in complex fault situations.

Most likely some particular line characteristic detail which makes
the Courier code have that brain fart when calling a Netcom and
the same problem when calling a Viper, at a much lower frequency.

Which we KNOW that a particular Sportster rom fixes
completely EVEN WITH that line/modem at the other end.
