subject: 56K Modems?

David Allan wrote the following to All, and I quote (in part):
DA> Anyone have any thoughts on 56k Modems?
They work wonderfully for quite a few, and not at all (at greater than V.34
link rates) for others.
DA> I realize the standard isn't quite set....
Actually it has just recently been set.
DA> US Robotics is offerring a free upgrade to whatever the standard
 DA> ends up being....don't they?
Yes, and most reputable vendors are doing the same.
DA> Is there more than one USR Modem available?
Yes. At the low end of the price scale is the WinModem (which only operates
under Windows v3.1 and Windows '95), in the intermediate range is the
Sportster (a device targetd more toward the casual on-line user), and the
Courier (a device oriented more toward the power user).
 DA> Anyone suggest one?
What is your intended application?
Regards....
