5. No idea unless there is group policy to override this. I disable =
NBT and have for years.
6. No. You did not not need to disable LMHOSTS lookup either.

Customer environment has a bunch of Windows XP boxes in a domain =
controlled
by Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Customer noticed outgoing TCP =
connection to
port 139 (NetBIOS) every 12.5 minutes.
1. What is it trying to do?
2. Why is it doing it every 12.5 minutes?
3. How can this be disabled?
4. What is the ramification of disabling NBT (NetBIOS over TCP)?
I went to Network Connections, Properties, TCP/IP, Properties, =
Advanced,
WNS, (whew) unchecked "Enable LMHOSTS lookup", and selected
"Disable =
NetBIOS
over TCP/IP". However, after rebooting, it undid these changes, and =
once
again LMHOSTS lookup was enabled and NetBIOS was set to "default".
5. Why did it do this?
6. Is what I did the way to disable NetBIOS, or do I also need to =
remove
"File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"?
Thanks.
Gregg
