getting out just fine ...What kind of parrots do you have?.. I have 2
Quakers,2 cockitiels, and 2 lovebirds... My husband and I are going to
try our hand at breeding these birds, Turn our hobby into a money
maker.. Bring the joy to others that they bring us ..

"Bring joy to others..." is a great reason for breeding birds, but
don't expect to make any money at it. If you are lucky enough and good
enough to get your birds to breed right away (within a year) you still
have to continue to feed, house and vet them. Then the babies have to be
fed and go to the vet. Then, after the first clutch.....when are the next
ones....6 months later, maybe. More like a year or more later.
Don't get me wrong....it is a real rush to hold the first baby of
your own breeding. Just don't expect it to be anything but a LABOR OF
LOVE!
I was extremely lucky with my first pair, CAGs. They were READY to
breed when I got them. Acquired in October...eggs in May. Hen died in
August. (Heart attack according to the necropsy.) Then we went thru 6
months of hell with the cock. He was so attached to that hen that he
refused to eat. Ended up losing about 85 grams. Many vet visits and meds
later he finally came out of him grief. He has a new girl now, but they
haven't shown any interest in nesting, several years later.
Other pairs are on again, off again. Some are fairly consistent.
Added new pairs of Cherryheads and CAGs last spring....no babies at all
last year...just 17 hungry mouthes to feed.
Remember, its a labor of love....and a lot of fun!

Subj: near tragedy
-> Had an almost tragedy yesterday. The baby cherryheads learned how to
-> unlatch and open a cage door when nobody was home. I hadn't used
-> 'hard' latches on the cage doors because they had showed no signs of
-> being escape artists--until yesterday.
->
-> I went out for a while, running errands. I returned to find the door
-> open, and all of them out of their cage--one on top thowing things
-> off the cage, one climbing on a cage side, and one missing. I
-> couldn't find baby #3, until a slight rustle led me to the large
-> trash container in the middle of the room. The baby was UNDER the
-> plastic bag in the trash can, between the bag and the can bottom!!!
->
-> I thank God he was OK--he was tangled up in the bag, but in an air
-> pocket, and not wrapped tightly enough to choke. I pulled him out
-> and he cuddled against me for an hour, too scared to move. I was gone
-> almost 2 hours--I have no idea how long he was in that can. Poor
-> little critter--it's a good thing he's staying here with us at least
-> for a while yet; this really took a big chunk out of his confidence.
-> He'd never be able to handle going to a new home right now.
->
-> Today, the trash can has a new top on it...and the cage doors all
-> have new, different, baby-proof latches added.
->
-> The lesson? NEVER underestimate the power of a bird's brain when it
-> comes to figuring out doors...and cover those trash cans!!!!!

I hear you we have 2 quakers and they are both escape artists... I guess
they are like children.. You think there is no way for them to get into
(or out of) something and they turn around a prove you all wrong
