As I said in the original thread, you can get good pump shotguns at a
decent price which are already as short as legally allowed and include a
pistol grip - though I have little use for pistol-grip shotguns (often
refered to as "wrist-breakers" here).
Pulling out this week's ad from a local sporting goods store, they're
selling a Mossberg "Persuader" (8-shot pump w/20" barrel) for $220
(regular $270). I don't know if this is with a pistol grip or not, but
usually for Mossberg it is - or even comes with both.
But I don't have a Mossberg - I have small hands, and they are designed
for hands larger than mine. The Winchester Defender with the same
features has a list price of $290 - which means K-mart, Wal-mart or any
of the major sporting goods stores will have it for less.
Also, Mossberg makes an "economy grade" which they sell under the brand
name Maverick (model 88) which lists for $210 - but only holds 6 shells.
At a higher price are some "security" versions of the Remington 870, but
that's another story.
To get back to the question, you ought to be able to find a new Mossberg
in stock in your area - probably even on sale at a price similar to that
above. On the other hand, the classifieds or a local gun dealer may be
able to hook you up with a used one for less. I bought a used Winchester
(w/o pistol grip - as I said, I don't like them) for $185 used from a
local dealer last year, to give you an idea.
A legal note. Last year, the state of Texas considered calling pistol-
gripped shotguns "handguns". Fortunately for people in my area, this
failed, but it's likely that there are other places which will restrict
either the pistol grip or the capacity. Of course, if they're in your
local stores they must be legal - otherwise you may wish to check your
local laws first.
