Sure. It probably is a switch even though the box does not say so.
I'm currently using a D-Link D-604 router/switch in front of a DSL modem
because the price was right (free) and it works just fine. The DSL modem
is more than just a modem. It's got your typical consumer grade
router/firewall and PPPOE support built-in, but it only has a single port.
After turning off PPPOE in the D-Link, I now have more DHCP servers than I
need along with NAT and so on done by the D-Link. :-)
