I have a number of used drives around here (used when I got 'em in other words) and if I have a choice I go for Sony if available. If I can I try and avoid Mitsumi, Newtronics, and Alps. Wayne has said (if I'm remembering right) that he did okay with H-P, so it's a matter of gathering this info where we can.
