I didn't like DS9 much when it was new and for years I avoided it. Not long
ago, having churned though most of TNG, I decided to check out DS9 again,
because if you recall, it ran concurrent to TNG for a while and had some
overlapping plotlines. 

In the first two seasons DS9 is trying to find its way, but there are some
nice moments. The show improves dramatically when Worf joins the cast, and it
really stays strong up until the final season (with a few missteps along the
way -- such as the cheesy Ferrangi-centric plots). 

I'd suggest taking another look at it!

As for Voyager... ugh. Gilligan's Island in space. Although I hear it got
good later on also, so it may be worth a second look as well.
