RS> If it is so easy...there is no excuse for NOT RS> including a multi-threaded cout and cin for those of RS> use who are new to C++. DN>What IBM actually deliver is USL iostreams v2.x with only DN>minor hacks to support binary handles, no other DN>embellishments or changes. DN>It is fairly clear that IBM have no major plans to support or encourage DN>development of text mode apps. 'cout' and 'cin' are of DN>course text mode only. Their emphasis is clearly GUI, so I DN>would imagine that what you ask may be well the bottom on DN>their DN>priorities list, if indeed it is there at all. Iostream is File I/O. File I/O is often used in GUI applications, as well as to access pipes. It isn't always stdin/stdout. If iostreams does not have multi-threaded versions, it is limiting to GUI applications, too. (Also, I don't know how IBM feel about this, but STDIN/STDOUT (ie cout and cin) can be redirected through a pipe to a PM application. Is this encouraged by IBM????)
