SK>DT> SHEILA KING spoke of Fonix to DAN TRIPLETT on 11-02-96
SK>Here is the info on my (ancient) text:
SK>_Historical Linguistics: An Introduction_ 2nd ed.,
SK>by Winfred P. Lehmann (of Univ. of TX)
SK>Holt, Rinehart and Winston, Inc, 1962 & 1973
SK>ISBN 0-03-078370-4
My wife is a librarian...maybe she can dig it up for me...
SK>Apparently I bought it used. My kids added some decorations with
SK>crayons over the years, I find, as I flip through it today.
So it has illustrations now too.....I like picture books...
SK>....
SK>DT> SK>This would have also affected the way many dipthongs and
SK>DT> SK>glide vowels, such as the y were pronounced.
SK>DT> SK>I hope this begins to give you a bit of an insight into the
SK>DT> SK>topic. My historical linguistics text is across the room on
SK>DT> SK>the shelf, but it's been years since I looked into it!
SK>DT> SK>
SK>DT> Ok....now you've earned my respect.....I feel like a
SK>DT> diphthong....
SK>and of course, this was my intent in sharing! To inflate my ego and
SK>deflate yours. (Refer to any Dilbert comic book, to understand the
SK>benefits of such an exercise.)
Deflating is ok....flattening is not!.....fortunately I had ample hot
air remaining and am almost back to normal....
Happy New Year......
