Paul, at 13:28 on May 11 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... BG> With V.32terbo, I don't think that anybody could really give a fuck, and as BG> the problem doesn't exist with later Supras, why would they bother ? PE> The problem is actually with V32bis. No, the problem is with ONE V.32bis modem calling a V.32terbo-capable modem, albeit at V.32bis. It's the V.32terbo kludge which is somehow triggering the problem in THAT model Supra, which is why the later ones work fine. PE> Rod isn't trying to get a V32terbo connection, he's trying to get a V32bis PE> connection. That is not an unreasonable thing to want to do. Given that even the later Supras work just fine, the assumption has to be that the code in Rod's old V.32bis model is in some way deficient. PE> Neither company is worth the paper it prints the warranty on. BG> Dunno, USR's shares in the US went up a massive 37c to $1.71 the other day, BG> so somebody certainly disagrees with your opinion re the company's worth. PE> You may have noticed that Microsoft shares also have performed PE> superbly in the past. Had very little to do with whether Windows PE> 3.1 was better than OS/2. Had to do with how well the company PE> could gouge the market. There's a hell of a lot more to it than that, and you know it. I think you'll find that the public's and the shareholders' confidence goes a long way to determining a company's on-paper value, and that is generally the result of the perception of the quality of that company's products, and their sales figures (and profits). Very little to do with gouging at all. Regards, Bill --- Msgedsq/2 3.20* Origin: Logan City, SEQ +61 7 3200 8606 MO (3:640/305.9) SEEN-BY: 640/305 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
