KUBBY FOR GOVERNOR CAMPAIGN
PRESS RELEASE
5 NOVEMBER, 1997
WASHINGTON IS HISTORY-BIG NEWS TOMORROW
The disappointing news from Washington today must be taken without
bitterness, or division," said Steve Kubby. "The people up there tried
their best, and nobody could have expected a stronger effort. The
Gubernatorial candidate was talking about the defeat of I-685 in
Washington. "It appears the last minute ad blitz about the dangers of
legalized LSD and heroin, sank the medical marijuana initiative."
"People are suffering and dying because using marijuana for medical
reasons is still a felony in most places, noted Kubby. "Humanitarian
reasons require we make every effort to ease their suffering. We need to
be passing sound medical marijuana laws. If the anti-med mj forces have
found an effective message in ignoring med mj, and attacking the other
drugs like LSD and heroin, it may be necessary to leave drugs other than
marijuana off future initiatives, if we expect them to pass. Either
that, or find a lot more money to buy advertising with in the future, in
order to overcome the drug warriors' disinformational campaign."
"I liked Cliff Schaffer's words this morning," mused Kubby. Cliff said:
"It seems the thing to do now would be an honest post-mortem on what
worked and what didn't, in order to avoid the same problem somewhere
else. We can't win them all, but we can learn from when we don't (win)."
"Cliff's words sound right to me," claimed Kubby. "From now on lets
concentrate on good medical marijuana initiatives; initiatives that
can't be attacked with drug war lies.
"Tomorrow I will be making a very special announcement. I am going to
announce the next step past medical marijuana for California. It is
another stand-alone issue. It has nothing specific to do with medical
marijuana, even though it addresses the War on Drugs in total. It should
excite everyone," claimed a smiling Kubby, "Shouldn't we all be able to
agree on the need to end the War on Drugs?"
