PE> This MAY be true. It's still highly unprofessional, not

DD> I would imagine that they, like me, see this as Rod Speed's problem, not

I would imagine, that they, like you, wouldn't have a clue who's
problem it is.
DD> When HIS (and only his) modem attempts to connect to a V.32ter enables

DD> If other V.32bis modems connect the Courier, they have no such

DD> The problem is ONLY exibited with Rod's modem, therefore it must be his

And if Rod only failes to connect to the Courier, then it
must be YOUR modem that is making the odd tone.
DD> As his modem is a superceeded model, ther is no point in wasting resources
DD> trying to accommodate it.
It happens to be a real-world modem.
DD> NO modem will connect with EVERY OTHER MODEM straight out of the box
DD> (although the Courier does come close).
I expect that to be documented, with a REASON why the Courier code
can't cope with that as a default (does it break something else?),
and what you need to do to get around the problem.
DD> Sometimes one must adjust the settings to suit the occasion.
This is the one that you were telling me you never have to adjust,
right?
DD> If one MUST connect with Rod, then one
DD> simply turns off V.32ter detection and the problem goes away.
If I disabled V34 down to V22, I'd probably be far more successful
with connects too. All at V21. I happen to WANT to communicate
with all real-world modems. I'm in the market for a modem that
does exactly that. Admittedly in this case I don't mind disabling
non-standard protocols. USR should at least document this though,
and anyway, I don't believe they can't adjust their code to cope
with that real-world V32bis modem.
DD> Why does Rod's modem make V.32ter tones if it doesn't support that speed?
You don't know that they do. Neither does USR. Neither does Supra.
It seems I'm the only one who's been right all along - NO modem
company is worth the paper it is written on. BFN. Paul.
