Hi Thomas!
TK> Servus Sven!
Servus Sven appropinquat... der Skalve Sven naehert sich :))) Selbst fuer
jemanden, der mal 5 Jahre schlecht in Latein war ist das "Servus" als Gruss
immer noch komisch :)))))

That wouldn`t be any problem... There are some ways that work and there is a
way that works best. If you ahev a MiniDisk player with a digital (S/PDIF)
output and a soundcard with an S/PDIF input, that would be best. You just
make a WAV file out of every piece, that isn`t worse than the original.

Doing it the analog way causes definately some degradations. The DAC (digital
to analog converter) of the MD-player isn`t too bad, I think. The ADC (analog
to digital converter) of the soundcard might not be as good. Especially the
mic inputs aren`t very good on most soundcards... they are made for things
like voice processing, not for recording music. Also some soundcards put 12V
phantom power to the mic input. That might destroy the line out of other
audio devices, in case those aren`t "phantom power proove".
If the soundcard has a line input, you have to use it for recording the WAV
files. The ADC might be better, too. I don`t know the techical data of the
AWE 32 (the wave table is pretty good). An SNR (signal to noise ratio) of
60dB is about tape quality. 10 dB more means it`s half of the noise energy.
90dB is pretty good, >100dB is studio quality.
Take care

             SVEN
