-> virtues of being in a non-powered approach when thier engines quit.
And if EVERY landing was a power OFF landing, you'd never be surprised
when the big fan quit blowing just off the approach.
A good friend of mine who was taught power/flaps/drag-up/two-mile final
landings broke the pretty little Volksplane fifty feet from the end of
the runway when the prop suddenly became stationary.
When it quit, he had enough altitude to have flown a normal pattern and
landed at mid field.  As it was he didn't have a clue about landing
ANYTHING without power (To say nothing of that little aerodynamic BRICK)
and didn't even get back to the airport for a straight in.
I haven't let an opportunity go by to razz him about it and now he's a
pretty fair pilot in the pattern.
