GRAND_ROUNDS Echomail Conference Rules
Daniel Prince, Moderator
Stu Turk co-Moderator
This conference runs under the following rules. If you do not agree to
abide by these rules, you are requested not to post any messages in this
conference, or, if you are a Sysop, to not allow Users of your BBS to post
messages in this conference. If you or any of your Users post non-conforming
messages in this conference you will be warned of the infraction. If it
continues, you will be asked to drop the conference. If you do not drop the
conference voluntarily, the system(s) uproute will be asked to disconnect
your Echo feed. This method is not the preferred method. The preference is
to have people simply abide by the rules. They are not all that difficult to
adhere to.
The purpose of this conference is for the free exchange of information,
ideas, and assistance, and it is open to everyone. The topic is discussion
of medical problems, medical information, or anything simply oriented toward
medicine and health.
While this echo is for the discussion of medical topics and questions it
should NOT be substituted for consultations with your own physician. You
can't expect someone to diagnose or treat your illness over the modem. Also,
even if someone signs their message as "Dr Kildare", you have no way of
knowing if they are really an MD. Even if the person answering your question
is an MD, there is a (slight) chance his/her answer may not be correct for
your case and we strongly believe that you have no right to sue him/her for
malpractice because you haven't established a professional relationship with
him/her.
If you make a startling claim, state your sources so that the readers of
this echo can judge the creditability of your source and check the facts for
themselves. The claim that the Pope is a child molester and that brain dead
patients have walked out of hospitals are the kind of startling claims that
require sources. Saying that cigarette smoking causes cancer and emphysema
is not a startling claim and doesn't require sources.
Please limit quoting of messages by eliminating all information that is
not needed to emphasize your response. Please be sure to eliminate all
origin lines or signature lines unless they relate directly to your response.
Some Sysops have to pay long distance charges to get echos, reducing space as
much as possible is one way to lower that expense.
Private messages, person-to-person messages, and messages dealing with
strictly local topics that cannot be of any interest to other members of the
conference should not be in this (or any National) Echo. Such messages
should be sent NetMail. Users should contact the SysOp of the BBS (in the
General Msg Area or a special area for messages to/from the SysOp, not in
this Echo) for information on his/her NetMail policy.
Personal attacks against people whose opinions differ from yours are not
permitted. A useful exchange of information requires that you accept the
fact that people with different experiences, computer systems, sex, color,
lifestyle or location may have different opinions or experiences from yours.
The object is to learn from others, not argue with them. Political campaigns
are not allowed here.
Each SysOp that receives this Echo is responsible for any and all traffic
that enters this conference from his/her system. This does not include "In
Transit" messages from other systems receiving the conference, but it DOES
include messages from Users of the system, and any point operators of the
system.
While they are not encouraged, the use of "handles" or anonymous names is
permitted providing their use is not to conceal the identity of a person
posting malicious messages.
Commercial advertisements and BBS ads should not be posted in this (or
any national) Echo. Note that this does not forbid messages about specific
products or services or BBS ads in response to request for information.
Please do not reply to BBS ads, "test" or "off topic" messages. Let the
Moderators deal with such messages (usually via NetMail).
Also, if you feel a problem merits the attention of the moderator, please
notify the moderator by direct netmail, not a message in this conference.
All messages in this Echo must have a FidoNet Origin line of less than 79
characters. The Origin line should contain the BBS's name and it is
recommended it also contain the City and two letter state code. The line
must end with a FidoNet Net/node address. This is absolutely necessary due
to the various gateways that are maintained to this conference.
If you have any questions concerning these rules, please contact the
moderators directly.
Thank you, Daniel Prince, Fidonet 1:102/129
