Hi Mark!
MV> What brand did you get?
I have got the Traxdata CDR4120. Actually, it`s a TEAC CD recorder. Had to
get a patch for the Adaptec Software, because it nusually doesn`t support a
Traxdata (It's 4x recording 12x reading).
MV> I have an HP CD Writer Plus 7200i which is waiting on the new computer.
I guess, that`s a good choice. HP builds very good stuff.
MV> I've been shown both Easy CD Creator and the Spin Doctor thing--had
MV> planned to use both.
Easy CD Creator (deluxe) includes the Spindoctor. Forget about the Spin
Doctor... the results are pretty poor.
MV> What I need to find out about is how to get audio (guitar or otherwise)
MV> into the Soundblaster and into a .WAV before going to disc.
That`s pretty easy. You have to connect your stereo or 4-track or whatever to
the line input of the soundcard (not the mic input, the phantom power could
ruin your stereo). You can use the normal Windows wav recorder for sampling.
You have to take into account, that a CD has up to 650MByte of (sound) data
on it. So you should have about 1 Gig of free HDD space, too.
MV> Harvey Reid has been recording his fine music to DAT. At the going
MV> prices for writable CDs (as you say, about $2 per), he could go direct
MV> to CD. This HP drive does the re-writable discs, too; but I hear that
MV> one of those might not play on other drives as readily as would the
MV> regular CD-R discs.
The CDRs might have problems with some CD players too. I have tested the
"silver" CDRs with all the CD players I have access to and they work fine.
Haven`t tested the "gold" CDRs, though, but I have heard that they might be
problematic with audio CD players.
MV> The Amp Guy at work (in addition to bringing in his Yamaha 11-string
MV> [one's busted], which took up the first 15 min. of my work day) gave me
MV> a CD of a local guitar dealer's music--complete with cover & liner stuff.
MV> It's sure easier for an artist to get onto disc, at least with local
MV> distribution.
If some local musician wants to sell CDs on concerts etc. I`d still recommend
to go the normal way. A CD glas master is about $300 and the real CDs are
cheaper than the CDRs and it`s faster than recording CDRs, too. I know a
couple of people, who have made CDs just the normal way.
Take care
SVEN
