You remember INCORRECTLY!
The PREVIOUS law, the Communications Act of 1934, put no restrictions on what
you could listen to. That particular law has now been superceded by the
ECPA, the TDDRA, and a few other changes.
You can NOT _legally_ listen to cellular phones, OR cordless phones, OR
studio-transmitter links, or several other things.
And if you think it's 'cool' to ignore the law, just HOW cool will it be when
the Federal Government completely outlaws scanners? Because THAT is what
will happen, if we act as if we can pick and choose WHAT laws we want to
obey, and what ones we want to disobey.
