My brother (Stan) and myself were in the same situation.
We really liked our original ISP, and cable was the first
to come to our area.

What we did, was go for an "email only" account with our
original ISP, which can be accessed through our cable
connection.

This way, we have high speed AND use our ISP of choice!
The email only account costs $49.00 a YEAR, which I find
very reasonable.
