Or the line was in use for voice-calls;-)

During ZMH the voice telephone was switched off and the modem (software in
"host mode") would answer calls.
Not every node could avoid multiple lines with different numbers;-)

ZMH also was used by nodes _without_ a BBS.
Those nodes just shared the same (only 1) number for voice and modem.
That is why ZMH was at times that no incoming voice calls were to be
expected.
On the other hand, if someone tried to make a voicecall with the sysop
during ZMH, he only got "music sound of the modem" :-)

Prime reason to use ZMH was the telephone-line normaly (daytime) in use for
voice. A BBS was second reason (not important, because BBS users have to
sleep too;-)
