JK> We'll get there eventually... not real soon though.
You're going to wait on them until Indy heals...?
JK> Today Indy had surgery to remove a very large cyst on his chest.. poor
JK> baby.. The vet said it certainly looked cancerous but he was pretty
JK> sure he got 'all' of it (I know what he means there...) I didn't have
JK> him test it. He said if it grows back we'll deal with it then.
He thinks he got good margins all around, then...? And hopefully it was
still well contained and hadn't been moving elsewhere....
JK> This one that was removed today took about 4 years to get to the size
JK> it was (very small fist size).. It didn't affect him in terms of
JK> movement, etc. so that was something. I'm just hoping the surgery
JK> doesn't make it spread elsewhere if it was cancerous... which is
JK> really why I put off having the surgery until now.
Generally when a cancer is encysted and contained, it can be removed
without having it spread just due to the surgery.... especially if the
cyst isn't broken into...
JK> I sure don't want to go through what we went
JK> through with Toby and his stomach cancer. That was horrific and
JK> nothing you could do...
I know... hopefully this will be different....
>> There is a vet in the Ithaca area that makes home visits, we had her

JK> That sounds like a real 'mobile vet' :) This one that came mostly
JK> likes to treat geriatric dogs if you know what I mean.. :) She really
JK> can't do much more than give shots and exams. She doesn't travel with
JK> any kind of surgical equipment, but given how close Cornell is, I guess
JK> that makes sense.
In some ways, anyway...
JK> I guess it also makes sense that all of the vets up here that we've
JK> met have been graduates of Cornell Veterinary School..
Didn't have to be that way... but it is convenient for them to not move
too far away.... :)
> wasn't sure he could save her, but he did, and she bounced back
> beautifully... and lived another nine-plus years....
JK> That is so really good to hear :) I'm happy to hear about good
JK> vet/pet stories right now ... what a day it's been.
I can imagine... :)
> none of the kittens survived, though....
JK> Ah that's too bad.. did the mom reject them? I had a mom cat that did
JK> that once to her litter.. I could never figure out why she did that..
JK> but they all died. Then later she had another litter and they were all
JK> fine. Weird.
She didn't get a chance to reject them... none of them survived
birthing, their necks were broken as she tried to push them out.... she
wasn't a very big cat, and less than a year old herself... she
apparently had some larger cat in her genes, and apparently also was
knocked up by a larger male... she was huge when pregnant, and it turned
out there were only 3 very large kittens in there... all bundled in
their sacs, they were about 4 inches long... not surprising they didn't
make it... More surprising that she did, after bursting her uterus and
going septic.... But she also didn't get a chance to try again, since
effectively she'd been spayed by the emergency surgery....
>>> I'll talk to him again next Friday when Indy goes in for his surgery.
>>> who knows? :)
>> He'll probably help you figure out some way to get the cats to him... :)
>> I'm hoping for knockout drops :) :) :)
JK> Well needless to say, we didn't talk about cats this visit.. it was so
JK> somber given Indy's surgery... The cats can wait.. :)
Yup. :)
>> haha... I can picture it, as I've seen that kind of demand for

JK> Yes, and some way high up.. top of hutches, etc...just in case they
JK> have to attack from space (bombardier's Lol)
But of course... ;)
>> these guys as they seemed fitting :) And boy did each of them know

> I guess the shelter workers had a good sense for naming, then... and
JK> Yes.. sexy Lola.. Big Girl LULU (lol).. Leo the Lion, and
JK> madwoman-huntress-Lizzy-Borden. They got each of their personalities
JK> down for sure :)
Sounds like... :)
> were able to build up the rapport with the animals... :) What happened
> to the rest of the cats...?
JK> Lizzy moved in with a neighbor in Windsor (probably because that woman
JK> gave her canned cat food she told me :) ), Leo took off when we moved
JK> from Windsor, but we had a woman with cat-trap catch him in Windsor..
JK> then when we got to Slaterville Springs he stuck around for a few years
JK> and then left for good. I hope he just took off.. we never saw or
JK> heard of any 'dead yellow tiger kitties' in the area.. and as I
JK> mentioned, the other two are here....
I remember Leo from the second Slaterville Springs picnic.... :) Maybe
he decided he missed Windsor...
>> This week, I made pizza for all of us, but I tried a new idea that

> Is that instead of any tomato sauce, or in addition to it...? It does
> look pretty good.... :)
JK> You prepare the dough as usual, then after you get it stretched in the
JK> pizza pan, you plop a dollop of pistachio pesto on the dough, and
JK> smooth it around the surface.. then you can add halved cherry tomatoes,
JK> mozzarella, garlic salt, pepper, anchovies, etc., or tomato pizza
JK> sauce, mozzarella, onions, anchovies (my favorite :)), garlic salt,
JK> pepper ...
I'd be inclined to omit the tomato sauce.... halved cherry tomatoes
instead sounds a bit better.... :)
