DA> Ernie: My two republican senators from Indiana, Lugar and Coats,
DA> both voted FOR the Brady Act, and both voted FOR the semi-auto
DA> and magazine ban.
And I have Kyl and McCain...
DA> I'm a conservative. Am I supposed to vote FOR these two gun
DA> banners again? How are they (Coats and Lugar) going to vote on
DA> Brady II?
...and am faced with the same question.
There are pro-gun republicans. I'm represented in the House by one
such. There are pro-gun democrats, although they're less numerous,
especially at the federal level.
So wtf does one do? Vote Libertararian? I did, mainly, for a lot of
years. They are the only ones who can be expected to respect the
second amendment consistently. But I'm perhaps less ideologically
pure, now, or more realistic.
So what it comes down to is the process of politics is a dirty
business. As with sausage making, perhaps the process is icky. But if
we turn away in our disgust the other side has won.
