-> TW> REDMOND, Washington (AP) -- Microsoft reversed a decision to stop -> TW> support for some older Windows operating systems, saying Monday some -> TW> customers in developing countries were not aware of the change. -> TW> Support for Windows 98 and Windows 98 S.E. had been scheduled to expire -> TW> Friday, and for Windows Millennium Edition on December 31. Under -> TW> Monday's decision, the software giant would maintain paid phone support -> TW> for the operating systems and review security threats to determine -> TW> whether it will provide customers with security patches through June -> TW> 30, 2006. -> Wow! Then we can buy cheap old hardware, because people don't wonna run -> a unmaintained OS. Well I have been a bleever i nthat one for some years. A while back I snaped up several OEM copies of Win95OSR2 at the Swap meet. Usualy at about $10. I rarely see Win98SE or even Win98 for that matrer. And in fact most vendord are not aselling Win98 at More then what it was selling for when it was fully supported. -> Or maybe we'll get more Linux users.. Who knows.. I highly doubt that. I took a fling at KNOPPIX becasue so many were Raving about it . Well while it has excellent Hardware support it is still NOT ready for the Big Time. I also have been played a Sucker for the 5th time and am going to Try Mandrake 9.2 also but the word in that while it is FAr better then Red Hat it is still not all that good for the "Casual Home User. I thin kmuch of the Hype about Linux is just Sour Grapes and as they say "Misery Loves Company". So they hype it up and Sucker others in to joining giving them soemoen ot Laugh at or somethoing. I really don't know. BUt it is really a very poorly designed Operating System for the "Average" HOME user. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Shakey Jake's *ALL FREE BBS* Santee, CA (1:202/1324) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 202/1324 10/3 106/2000 633/267 |
