GV> Actually, WIN 95 is significantly more powerful than any version of
GV> Windows except NT. It is worth an upgrade without a doubt. It is not
CB> That's not saying a heck of a lot. And it's still a 1.0 release and
CB> people are still having major problems with it. (Remember what I said
CB> about my opinion of 1.0=Beta....)
I cannot argue ... any 1.00 release is that way. Except, WIN 95 is
more powerful (and when it works consistently) it is MUCH better than
any previous version. I finally have figured it out and it is WAY
better than WfWg 3.11. (For example, try running 3 WINZIP windows
WHILE playing doing DOOM2 and downloading a file ... no problem).
For the average user though, they are better off sticking with what
they know until it does become more reliable.
For example, I do NOT recommend it to my business customers yet ...
simply because I do not want all the support calls.
GV> perfect, but it is MUCH better than WIN 3.1 or WfWg 3.11. If you have
GV> 8 megs of ram now, you can run it OK, but it will be slower than
CB> Not from what I've heard. W96 needs 16meg to run as well as WfWg 3.11
CB> does is just 8. And personally I don't have the money to buy another
CB> 8 meg, plus the $100 for W96, plus the next upgrade so that it might
CB> actually work.
Does not the above quote from me state that with 8 megs it WILL be
slower? I do not see from what stand point you are argueing? BTW, for
90%+ people who have bought it, it works fine ... it has its annoying
glitches, but all in all, I would never go back. And, if you, as
others here do, really know me, you would know I am NOT a Windows fan.
And, one more thing ... WIN 96 (as you call it) will be FREE! Got
that? It will be free for download, or available for shipping costs
direct from MS. Call them and ask. Look for it around Jan 20th, 96.
GV> earlier Windows. With 16 Megs, it is very snappy. That is the price
GV> one pays for "progress." And WIN 95 is "progress" ... just not as much
GV> "progress" as MS wanted us to believe. :)
CB> Not even close as much as they hyped it. It still trails OS/2 in
CB> actual capability.
Absolutely true ... except (and beleive me, I beleive that MS are
complete jerkoff assholes for doing this) OS/2 will not run ANY true
WIN32 app, nor will it ever run them. It will only run WIN16 or WIN32s.
GV> BTW, I should have said "the next release will "probably" be released
GV> in WIN32 as well as WIN16 versions. Meaning that WIN16 Telemate users
GV> will still get bug fixes et cetera.
CB> Guess I'll have to wait and see. In the meantime though I'm sticking
CB> with my DOS comm program.
And so you should if you are happy with it.
