In general you can audio or video tape anything anywhere, subject to
restriction by a property owner if you are on his property.
The mainest restrictions are going to come on the use of such tapes.
you can't use a recognizable image of a person or property in a
commercial enterprise without the owner's permission, and the tapes
may or may not be admissable as evidence in a court proceeding.
But of course, as we've seen in the case of the car-jacked teacher in
New Jersey, it helps to identify the perpetrator when they find your
body...
