Hi Robert... While I agree with most of what you said, I thought I'd
throw my two cents in, especially since this echo is pretty quiet.

You mean COMPOSITE.

The data throughput is not all there is to defining how good the
compressed image quality is.

Wrong--D1 (COMPONENT digital) quality is the best, which is also used by
Panasonic D5 machines (and of course the Sony Digital Betacams, which
use mild compression).

Interesting. What does this system cost, and what are its capabilities?
Btw, have you heard of the BTS Medial Pool? We are one of the beta
sites for it, so we're pretty excited and hoping it works well. ;-)

But how is this Newtek's fault? Do you think they use deceptive or
misleading advertising?

Of course not. But if the Flying CAN playback video in (near-)D2
quality, it beats the pants off of using a non-linear system which
claims BetaSP quality and deliver about 3/4" (can you guess to which system
I'm referring?).

Absolutely, just as we are all keeping our fingers crossed that all of
our Ampex gear (ESS's, Alex's, VPR's, Vistas, ADO's, etc.) don't break,
since repairing them is even tougher now than it was when Ampex was
still "supporting" their products. Sorry, I digress. ;-)

As an Amiga owner, I'm the first to say Amiga has no viable future for
the video market. However, quite honestly, I would have jumped ship
personally a long time ago, if there was a decent alternative out there.
Until then, my Amiga and Amiga OS keep me using the Amiga for about 75%
of my computer-related time. The rest is spent on Macs and Windoze. I
sure wish that OS/2 was in the mainstream. I don't really want to
invest in another platform until I know it will be around for a long
time (oh, and I have to like it too :).
As I said, these are just my thoughts. Curious for comments....
