Trolling for sex at a science fiction convention is hardly limited to furry
fandom, nor, alas, is carelessness anent bathing at al at conventions.
Stupid, yes.

Have you ever actually attended a furry convention? Or any science fiction
convention, for that matter (fan-run, not one of those CreationCon
thingies.)? One incident can multiply itself astonishingly via the rumor
mill - I've been to every one of these things and have not personally
witnessed half of what's been reported.
