Talking about losses, is anybody here old enough to have read the John Byrne 
strike you as a little strange, not to mention cruel, that they took a
character with SOOOO much potential, made her into a monster, and then
killed her off?
The original Phoenix was the embodiment of characters like the Watcher, The
Silver Surfer, Ego, Thor and such, in a female vessel....before she turned
into Dark Phoenix, she saved the universe, defeated the evil side of the
Shi'ar Empire, and did quite a few other things that proved quite impressive 
in
her six or seven year tenure. Why would you kill off such a GREAT character
and plot device?!
