Just too much else out there with better parts and build to pursue
than
to fool around with anything like that for me. I have been folowing the Audio
Marketplace Newsgroup on the net. There are some pretty good deals out there
if your willing to search them out. A lot of tube gear is available, and many
vintage pieces to boot! Today there was an older Dynaco tuner and a tube
preamp. Both were suppose to be in excellent working and cosmetic condition
for about $150 (US) for both. There were a few tube amps listed as mint in
the
45 to 85 wpc range listed for under 1K.
I am holding off on any purchases beyond the subwoofer I have on order
until we move. We have our place sold and are busy looking for a slightly
bigger home in our same area. The second priority behind a safe neighborhood,
is the proper sized and laid out room for a listening room. I am looking for
about 15or16 by 20 with a cathedral ceiling and no windows or doors within 8
feet of where the system and main speakers will sit. I want to leave an area
at least 2 ft deep behind my system, so I can walk behind them and putz with
stuff. My wife went along with everything, but I owe her a big one for this.
It isn't easy finding such a room out here where the big selling point and
popular thing is "open floorplan". Great looking...terrible sounding!
Cheers, John
