subject: Unknown Message Area

Hi Reece,

RI> My point was that if some thing like that happened again, the area
RI> could default to a default area or a netmail area?

That would have to be something for the mail door to do. There is no
way an OLR can "know" these things and do it for you.

RI> As you will see I've now got your 4.1 up
RI> and so far I can't say it was problem free

About the only *real* problems you should have is with the FDxx drives.
This was fixed with a few pokes, but has now been superceded with V4.2
(uploaded to WOW earlier tonight).

RI> (and I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know)

You may be assuming too much here. If your problems are anything more
than the FDxx incompatibility, or the lock-up in header mode then I
don't know about them.

I sure hope I haven't just put out V4.2 that has bugs that you hadn't
made me aware of. (You must *never* assume that I know all the bugs,
or that others have reported them to me).

RI> It was when QWKRR continued to reload messages over and over

This is a new one on me.

 RI> probs. I'm now useing a 1581 emulation
RI> to do this. But apart from the
RI> prob. with native mode I've had this this
RI> lock up on several occasions
RI> as it reads the next message. It just
                     ^^^^

I am aware of a problem when using revious in the header mode.. I
haven't heard of any problem relating to reading Next messages. :-(

RI> Also on some messages a '/' appears infront of the 'Area:' on the
RI> header. I've looked at Pg.8 in the
RI> manual, but the only reference I

This *is* in the manual.. (somewhere) :-)

RI> can find is about the '>'. This also seems to be at random but the
RI> messages with the slash keep the slash.

Not so. (unless you have a problem somewhere)

RI> Have I missed something in the
RI> manual? Does the slash tell me anything usefull? Or is it one of

The slash is displayed if you enter a message number to read a specific
message.. it is basically telling you that all the other flags are
ignored..

RI> those 'features' you told me about some time ago?

I dunno... maybe... I write 10-20 messages a day.. I've got no hope
of remembering what I've said to any particular person.
I do know that I generally keep repeating myself though :-(

RI> Will the Questionair be OK sent through netmail to you?

Nope, please don't... chances are that a message of that size will
cause one of the systems it passes through to reject it.
Netmail is unreliable at the best of times.

Hmm, maybe you could upload it to Network BBS so that Warren or Artie
can d/load it and send it to me with one of the CN postings ???

RI> Would you like me to detail any further probs. with my
RI> FD or are you well and truly covered in that respect?

I can *never* have too much information regarding problems, so yes,
please keep me informed.

Unless you have performed the pokes to fix the FD problem (or download
a copy of V4.2) then you can save your energy..

RI> BTW I do like the new status line, as I
RI> often make printouts of some of
RI> the echoes I get and I sometimes would
RI> loose track of what I has been
 RI> printed and what I hadn't.

Yeah, it takes a wee bit to get used to, but it is far more informative
than previous versions.

Cheers
Rod
