Subject: [SPAM] Silent Runners update (R21)
Importance: Low

Hello,

The Silent Runners home page can now be found at http://www.silentrunners.org/
Please note that the .COM domain name is NOT owned by me and has NO
relation to the script.

The "Silent Runners.vbs" script has been revised. It is
recommended that you download Silent Runners R21 and delete earlier
versions.

1. The script now identifies the company name for every file
listed. Thanks to "Karli..." for the suggestion. If the company is
"Microsoft Corporation", the output is abbreviated to
"[MS]". If
the file does not contain a company name, "[null data]" is
displayed; if the company name field exists but is empty, "[empty
   data]" is displayed.

Please use the company name as a guide, but not as proof of
identity. Malware can easily insert a reassuring company name.

2. The web site was overhauled. The "key list" was renamed to "launch
   points" and was moved here:
   http://www.silentrunners.org/sr_launchpoints.html

A contact form was added to request addition to or removal from
this distribution list, to send suggestions, or to ask any other
   question: http://www.silentrunners.org/sr_contact.html

3. The script name was added to the output file. Thanks to Tony M. for
   the suggestion.

4. The script will detect if an unsupported VBScript version is
installed and will direct the browser to the MS download page.
Thanks to Vesselin for detecting this problem.

5. If the script detects Windows 95, it will run as if it were
under Windows 98. However, use of the script this way will not be
supported. (IOW, it should work, but don't blame me if it doesn't.)
Thanks to John H. for the troubleshooting.

6. Several unreported bugs were fixed. Details can be found in the
   script footer comments.

"Silent Runners" is hard to find -- please add links to the home
page on your web sites: http://www.silentrunners.org/

You can also incorporate a small logo via this code:

http://www.silentrunners.org/"
target="_blank"> http://www.silentrunners.org/silentrunners_smlogo.gif" alt="I'm a
"Silent Runners.vbs" user, so I know what programs start up
with Windows!" border="0">

The updated script (R21) can be found here:
http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.vbs

A zipped version can be found here: http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.zip

The MD5 hash of the script can be found via a link on the web site.

Thanks to those users who have provided feedback enabling the script to be
improved. If you ever have any problem getting this script to run, please
let me know.

If this script fails to identify any program that starts up with Windows,
please let me know. I'll help you identify how the program starts up and
modify the script, if appropriate, so others may benefit.

Older versions of the script can be found here: http://www.silentrunners.org/history/

To be removed from the distribution list, please use the form on the web site.

regards, Andy
