You don't know that for sure though.  You're making assumptions based on
just one sample on one specific line.  Hardly empirical evidence, is it? 
The reality is that with the Viper, the VAST majority of
"problems" were errors with the manual, and NOT the modem itself.

Not really, I didn't pay them all that much attention.

So says the Courier manual as well.  I'd be surprised if +FAA=1 in the
init, and a normal answer string of ATA didn't work.  So go on, surprise
me...
