A couple of years ago a B737 had a fuel tank explosion on the ground at
Manila. Ignition source was never found. With the political situation being
like it is there, it oculd have been a terrorist act.
The Kingair crash at COS yesterday was a mess. It was a charter flight out of
MSP to bring a ocuple of Northwest mechanics in to fix a grounded B727. Wx
was heavy fog, below airline minimums. The plane struck the ground well short
of the runway, tail hiting first. The forward part of the fuselage looked
very intact but the tail assembly and outer wing panels had broken off
immediately outboard of the nacelles. The landing gear was retracted and the
flaps were down. Strange configuration - maybe a go around? Pilot and one of
the two mechanics were killed.
