subject: Need info on Microsoft Pr

Hi, Gerard.

GK> The company that I am working for is currently undergoing a Business Proces
GK> modelling exercise and we are interested in a Project Management Tool. We
GK> have heard of Microsoft Project and thought that it may be useful to do
GK> Gantt charts etc with. Is there anyone out there who currently uses
GK> Microsoft Project who would be prepared to drop me a short review of the
GK> product onto this echo or alternately give me a buzz at work on 387 3811.
GK> Does anyone know of any periodicals who have recently done a review of this
GK> product? Does anyone know of another product which would rival Project.

I used it at a consulting assignment a couple of years ago, and had
previously looked at a couple of alternatives (Timeline, forget the
other(s)) which were nowhere near as comprehensive as Project.

Dead simple to use straight out of the box without even reading the
manual, but it takes a while to become familiar with all the
capabilities. I just set the projects up and then when I thought, "Gee,
it'd be nice to be able to do that" checked the manual to see if it
could. Usually it could.

All sorts of display and printing possibilities; lists, Gantt,
dependency diagrams, sub-task trees, etc.

Easy extract to say Excel if you wanted to do a bit more than the
package provided, too.

There were certainly a few things in the advanced stuff which could bite
you on the bum, and some things I just didn't like how they were done,
but I don't remember the details now. Nothing show-stopping.

APC at least have reviewed this & other project management software
about the time I was using it, say '92/'93. And like most of there stuff
(IMHO) not very in-depth.

I'd say go for it.

Regards, FIM.
