Hi Jason,

JP> There is talk of a c65 computer being designed,

This project was started (and dropped) several years ago.
Incidently, C65 is a misnomer.. it is really called a C64 DX

JP> apparently there was a prototype of it.

This is as far as CBM got with it before shelving the product.

 JP> compatiable with c64

It is less compatible than the C128 is. (as I understand it)

 JP> and contains more memory

The "base" unit comes with only 64k Ram (hence the name C64 DX)
Apparently this can be expanded though.

 RP> and more colours.

256 of them (I think).

JP> all i know about it. I found this
JP> information from some European scene mags.
JP> Does any know any more about it ??

Due to a conflict of interests (they felt it would affect lAmiga sales)
CBM decided to drop the project before it got beyond the prototype
stage.
The units that were actually made (for demo purposes) were tucked away
in their warehouse until late last year.

For various reasons (lack of money) CBM decided to clear their
warehouse stock of their remaining C64s, 1581s, 1571's AND the C64 DX.

An american mob (Software hut??) bought all the C64 DX's (C65) and as
far as I'm aware they have all been sold off.

There is NO support for these machines, if they "die" then you *cannot*
get parts for them.. There are no manuals for them either.. most
people that have bought them have done so mainly because of the
"uniqueness" of these machines rather than practical usage.

A couple of people in Australia have managed to get hold of one and
should be able to give more info as to how "practical" they are.

A couple of people in USA have been doing some rather "extensive" tests
of the ROM code and have discovered that much of the code required to
operate these machines to their full potential doesn't even exist..
IOW, these prototypes really are a demo unit rather than a finished
product. That doesn't mean they can't be used though because all the
important stuff is there..

Anyway, thats all I know about it :-)

Cheers
Rod
