The stories I hear about short life are in the OTR echo and I suspect these 
are guys dumping old radio programs off to cdr and playing them in the car 
- one guy states as much.  Look at any insert and you see one of the big 
no-no's is to put them in places where they have wild temp swings - and I 
think a hot car would fill that bill nicely.

I have several that trace back to my very first burner, circa 1988 or so, 
and they play fine today.  Difference is I keep them in Jewel boxes, and 
those are stored in metal file cabinets inside the house.  :)
