| subject: | Re: NetBEUI no longer supported on WinXP? |
From: Randall Parker Geo, On the old NT Box I had him right click on the C: icon and had him create a share with the C: drive given a share name of X. But on that same box if I have him check his own IP address that share does not show up: > net view \\207.105.135.9 NET VIEW Responds: There are no entries in the list I then had him type his logical machine instead: > net view \\HisOldMachineNameHere and then it showed the X share on the list. Here's the twist: On my own NT box doing net view on its IP address shows its shares. But on his machine it only shows its shares if the logical machine name is used in the net view command. So is this a sign that the sharing is not being done by IP? If so, where would I go to fix that? If, not, what is happening? Over on the NEW machine I had him type again the OLD machine name: > net view \\HisOldMachineNameHere System Error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. So then why doesn't it prompt me for a password to log on to the other machine to get its shares?
