WC> The one I've got here, Basic Linux fits on two floppies WC> and can act as a server, telnet, browse using Links, POP3 WC> and SMTP along with a bunch of other stuff. WC> To be totally honest however I was never able to get SMTP WC> to negotiate though I may well try again. Oh well, nothing is perfect. :) BB> embedded IE and OE ripped out of it. By removing these two weak spots BB> a lot of the W98 problems go away like magic. WC> Actually I've not had Win 98, not SE, lock up, fail, damage a file WC> or require reboot in months now and it's huge OEM installation. I had a copy of W98 and it was a mess. Went to the W98SE and it worked great, but Imust admit I also increased memory up to 256 megs for that one. I suspect a lot of problems running W98 or W98SE comes from too little memory? They say it will run in 128 megs, but it sure doesn't run well! Upping the memory seemed to solve a lot of problems and now I've upped it to 384 megs so runs very well for me. :) WC> Running Ad-Aware, Zone Alarm, AVP for protection and WC> Free Agent for newsgroups, Thunderbird for mail WC> and Firebird as primary browser. WC> Systems been so stable lately it's downright spooky. I use the ad-aware weekly, but since I went to Mozilla Firebird haven't had anything added to the bad guy list? I use Free Agent and Eudora Pro for email. --- MultiMail/Win32 v0.43* Origin: Shakey Jake's *ALL FREE BBS* Santee, CA (1:202/1324) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 202/1324 10/3 106/2000 633/267 |
