BM{ AM> etc etc. Well, my son went through psychiatric evaluation
BM{ through a AM> school psyciatrist, and was also subjected to a
BM{ multitude of other AM> tests by the school counselors...there
BM{ conclusion...He is ADHD with no AM> doubt in mind, he has a very
BM{ high I.Q., and no learning disability. AM> There recommendation, is
BM{ Ritilin. Well, my son's doctor explained to AM> me that he does not
BM{ believe in quick fixes...
BM{ If you disagree with the evaluation of the school affiliated
BM{ psychiatrist (I'd make sure it is a psychiatrist and not a Master's
BM{ Degree psychologist) but still have a nagging belief that there is
BM{ something not quite right I'd urge you to seek another opinion from
BM{ someone that would not have any interest other than providing a
BM{ medical service to your son. Your son's doc, a pediatrician, may or
BM{ may not have any training or experience in identifying ADD/ADHD or
BM{ current treatment modalities. He is correct in saying there are no
BM{ quick fixes...there are, in fact no "fixes" for ADD/ADHD, they are
BM{ life long.
I should point out that if the child is being evaluated under IDEA for
special ed, and the parent disagrees, then the school may be required
to pay for the evaluation.
The school may object to this, but they must request an impartial
hearing to do so. Many districts just go along with this and pay.
Others, go to the hearing.
