Maybe in urban areas, where drugs are a major factor. I've been
fortunate as to where I'd never seen any peer to peer combat occur.
Usually the only problems were from "mamma's good little boy" getting
drunked-up and "jacking the winos" is where the problems came in.
Woke up one night when a well dressed crazy was tossing water on the
burnt out veterans... I sat up in my sleeping bag and asked "just what
the hell is your problem?" The response was I was attacked with a
Bartender's Billy. The jerk made a few mistakes... 1, I wasn't a wino.
2, I'm a pretty good sized boy. 3, I knew how to take care of myself.
He was also very lucky I've only got one mean bone in my body which is
buried somewhere deep inside and doesn't get much leverage. I had him
pinned to the ground with his own club across his throat, both of my
hands on either end of it and my full body weight across it. All I
would have needed to do was snap my arms forward and lean into it.
Mike, you and society would probably have seen this as just one of
those "wino fights." Written it off, and hrumphed a bit, then turn to
the next page of the newspaper or your report.
And, there's that word again... responsibility, oh look! A new
word... "society's norms!!" Where do you get off thinking you have
the right to force your belief's on someone. When did God appoint you
as administrator of what is socially proper. Norms... if you call our
society normal I want no part of it either.
