If you fire up OE on the new machine that is fine to do the file importing
from the drive that is on the old machine and mapped as X on the new
machine. However, if OE 6 won't directly import these OE 5.0 files (I
suspect it won't), then you will first have to use one of the conversion
alternatives I gave you by either firing up Outlook (not OE) on the old
machine and doing file imports into Outlook (all of this on the old
machine) and then running OE on new machine and doing file imports from
Outlook on the old machine. If you have to do a conversion probably better
than the Outlook thing would be to first install IE 6 on the OLD machine.
That will install OE 6 and convert the OE 5 files to OE 6 format. Then on
the new machine you can run OE and do file import to get the files over to
OE on the new machine.

That should be it, based on the files you found unless this computer has
more than one OE identity (which is what you called the
then the one you found is it.

Those should be the files you want to specify for the file import.

The address book can change depending on settings, but its most likely a
*.wab file. Search for *.wab and find these files. There shouldn't be more
than one or a few.

settings.
You should be able to do this. File import account names or something like
that will get you the settings hopefully. File Import Messages From
Outlook Express 6 will bring over the messages. File import address book
will get the address book over.

No once you select file | import | messages | outlook express 6, you will
then be asked if you want to import from main identity or a folder store
location. Select folder store location and then point the import wizard to
the directory on the X drive that you found with the *.dbx files in them.
The wizard will then show you the available stores (inbox, sent, deleted,
etc.). You can select all of them or just some of them. After that it
will read the messages you selected on the X drive and import them into the
store directory/files of the new machine.
You will need to do a separate file import to bring over settings for a
user account and another separate one to bring over the address book.

I was referring to the X drive and not a literal name.

Physically moving the files over and even putting them in the correct
directory won't make them show up in OE on the new machine. You have to do
a file import from within OE on the new machine as your last step. Don't
copy files from the old machine over to the new machine or you'll end up
with 2 or 3 copies of inbox.dbx, etc. but only one of which will really be
used by OE. Won't hurt anything. Just isn't elegant.
Hope this helps.
