Google is your friend! I have a rather comprehensive PDF here, somewhere,
sent to me by the folks
at Symbios Logic (or whatever they're called this year) when we were trying
to solve the problem
with the motherboard I replaced.

If you get to the point that you understand it, perhaps you could educate
the Award BIOS folks!

Well, that was at least part of it. My machine is/was all SCSI. There were
a number of other
issues, tho.

> What are you gonna build for the new machine?

Haven't really decided yet. I have a couple of fast AMD chips laying
around, so I'll probably use
one of them. Somehow, "latest and greatest" doesn't impress me
that much anymore.

> Weird. From the way you say that, I take it that they work in other
OSes? Or even in OS/2?

Nope, they won't work in any OS, and I can't boot from even a DOS floppy
(or read it, for that
matter!) That has happened to me before, but putting in a new drive always
cured it. Not this
time!

I'm beginning to suspect the internal cable in the SCSI case, but it's a
chore to replace one of
them. I think I'll first try exchanging two of the devices in the case and
see if the problem
follows. I've already tried about everything else.

Booting from a CD is no longer a problem, assuming I can read a CD at all!
:^) This thing simply
refuses to acknowledge there is a CD in it. The 40X Plextor has had about 4
hours of actual use,
so I doubt the drive is the problem.

I'll figure it out one of these days.
