Now that I know the correct terminilogy :-/, I looked up the standard,
and it says that the Calling modem will wait to hear either ANS or
ANSam as defined in the V.8 spec, and then it shall transmit CI, CT or
CNG, also defined in V.8.

The answering modem has to stay quiet for 200ms, then transmit
ANSam, and then receive CM, and POSSIBLY other tones.

ANSam
CI
CM

are defined in the V.8 recommendation. So is CNG and CT, they just
aren't listed in the same place.

So, the CI tones are presumptious, but not illegal.

Whatever all those tones mean, anyway!

BTW, this was for "duplex" operation. Can someone remind me what the
difference between full duplex and half duplex is?

BFN. Paul.
